NAIA Ball Team of the Week – Week 6

NAIA Ball Team of the Week – Tennessee Wesleyan

Tennessee Wesleyan continues their win streak by upping their wins to 9 in a row. Tennessee Wesleyan did not have an easy week but yet completed the week 4-0. Tennessee Wesleyan defeated #5 Cumberlands (KY) to start their week and then continued to sweep #6 Reinhardt (GA) in a three game series.

Game one would see a 12-10 victory over #5 Cumberlands (KY) for TWU. Anthony Figueroa would be credited the win in this game. Figueroa went 4.1 innings pitched and allowed four hits, one earned run, and one walk. Figueroa would also collect five strikeouts and pick up his second win on the season. On the offensive side, center fielder Kruise Newman would lead his offense with four runs batted in.

Game 2 would end in a walk-off fashion. Down 5-4 in the bottom of the ninth, Kruise Newman would hit a three-run home run to take the series opener against #6 Reinhardt (GA). 7-5 would be the final score as TWU starts the series off with a victory.

Game three would be a 6-4 victory for TWU. Four home runs would launch TWU to a late lead and wouldn’t look back for the rest of the game. Daniel Davila would come in to shut the door in the bottom of the ninth. Davila would pick up save number four in this game and TWU officially takes the series win.

A series win was nice but TWU wanted the sweep. Lefty thrower Blake Peyton would make sure of that as he tossed 6 scoreless innings with 12 strikeouts while only allowing two hits and one walk. Peyton would leave the game with a 3-0 lead as Daniel Davila was called upon again to shut this one down. Davila was successful and collected his fifth save of the season. The 3-0 victory gave TWU the three game sweep over #Reinhardt (GA) and makes it as this week’s NAIA Ball Team of the Week.
