NAIA Ball Team of the Week – LSU-Shreveport
LSU-Shreveport competed in the Cajun Collision this past week where they went 4-0. Two of their four wins came against top 25 teams, #14 Mid-America Christian (OK) and #16 Tabor (KS). LSUS outscored their opponents 25-9 during the week while completing two shutouts.
LSUS started the collision by shutting out #14 MACU, 5-0. Isaac Rohde was on the bump for LSUS and was untouchable. Rohde went all 7 while racking up 8 strikeouts while only allowing one hit, and giving up zero walks. Second baseman Anthony Swenda also helped in this win in the batter’s box. Swenda would end the day 2-3 with a double, home run, and three runs batted in.
In their second game LSUS would face Science and Arts (OK) and would walk away with a 7-2 victory. Infielder Jackson Syring would steal the show this game. Syring would have himself a two home run game and finish with three runs batted in. Lex Meinderts would also pick up his first win of the season on the mound. Leaving the game with 4.2 IP, four hits, two earned runs, two walks, and five strikeouts.
The third game for LSUS would come against #16 Tabor (KS). This would also be the closest game LSUS would be in this week. Down by two in the bottom of the 7th, the Pilots managed to scratch a three runs across to secure the walk-off victory. Infielder Jose Sallorin knocked in two runs with a double to tie the game. Vantrel Reed would be the one to win it with a RBI single to give LSUS the win.
The fourth and final game for LSUS this week was another shutout against Dakota State (SD). Draven Zeigler was on the hill for LSUS and was lights out from the start. Zeigler went all 7 while only allowing three hits and allowing zero walks. Zeigler would also rack up double digit strikeouts with 13. Zeigler would pick up his third win of the season as LSUS shutout Dakota State (SD) 5-0 to wrap up their time at the Cajun Collision.
