St. Thomas (FL) – The Sun – St. Thomas Bobcats baseball of St. Thomas University (Florida) earned NAIA Ball Team of the Week honors after a dominant four-game sweep of the Concordia Bulldogs in non-conference. The Bobcats showed their depth throughout the series, using a combination of explosive offense and strong pitching to secure wins of 15-3, 11-2, 8-4, and 12-8.
In game one, St. Thomas wasted no time setting the tone in game one offensively, scoring 15 runs on 13 hits while launching three home runs. The Bobcats’ lineup kept constant pressure on Concordia pitching throughout the game. On the mound, Juan Fernandez delivered a dominant performance, earning his fourth win of the season to improve to 4-2 while racking up 14 strikeouts.
Game two saw another strong offensive showing for the Bobcats, highlighted by a perfect day at the plate from Erick Ballenilla. Ballenilla went 3-for-3 with five RBIs, a run scored, a walk, and a home run to lead the offense in the 11-2 victory. On the mound, Ismael Cordoba struck out 11 batters and picked up his third win of the season, improving his record to 3-2 while keeping the Bulldogs’ offense under control.
Game three featured another productive outing for the Bobcats’ offense, which scored eight runs on nine hits to secure the 8-4 win. The bullpen played a key role in the victory, as five different St. Thomas pitchers combined to keep Concordia’s offense in check. The staff allowed just four runs on three hits across the game while maintaining control late to preserve the win.
In the series finale, the Bobcats completed the sweep with a 12-8 victory behind another big offensive performance. Edwin Toribio led the way at the plate, going 2-for-5 while driving in five runs. St. Thomas again relied on its bullpen depth, using six different pitchers to navigate the game. Despite Concordia collecting 11 hits and scoring eight runs, the Bobcats’ offense produced enough to secure the win and finish off an impressive four-game sweep.
