NAIA Ball Player of the Week Awards #2
Team of the Week
Southeastern University (#1) competed in the East/West Challenge this past weekend. On Thursday the Fire played against #19 Benedictine University-Mesa and #11 Hope International University. Two days later they took on #3 Lewis-Clark State College to complete the series in Glendale, AZ.
During the game versus Benedictine University-Mesa, third baseman Isaac Nunez led the Fire at the plate. He went 3-for-4, scoring two runs, while driving in three. After nine innings, the final score was 11-4.
Darien Smith helped SEU big time on the mound during the second game on Thursday. He threw 7.2 innings of no-hit baseball, in which he struck out ten. Southeastern ended up surrendering one run in the ninth, but scored nine making this a rather easy 9-1 victory versus Hope International.
The third and final game of the East/West Challenge for Southeastern was full of action. Josh Pigozzo and Landrey Wilkerson both drove the ball out of the park for the Fire. These longballs helped Southeastern to complete the sweep, as they beat Lewis-Clark State College 10-3. Southeastern was the only team in the East/West Challenge to stay undefeated, going 3-0. This makes them this week’s NAIA Ball Team of the week.
