Team of the week
For the first time in program history, the Trailblazers of Ohio Christian University made their way
into the River States Conference tournament. At the conclusion of the regular season, every team
had a chance to qualify for the tournament. The Trailblazer, who were the five seed in the East
division, faced Midway University (4 seed West) in a best-of-three series to secure a ticket to
Chillicothe, Ohio for the conference tournament.
Midway, who won the 2023 RSC regular season, beat the Trailblazers 0-11 in game one. The second
game of the play-in series went into extra innings, Ohio Christian was able to tie up the series with a
7-6 victory after twelve innings. Karson Runk, led his team with three hits, he also drove in a run for
the Trailblazers. Benjamin Sterritt, Caleb Haller, Ross Donaldson and Matthew Keener all collected
extra basehits in this nailbiter of a game. Midway took an early lead in all games, but the Trailblazer
fought back in game two, as well as the rubber match. A four spot in the sixth inning tied the game
at 5-5. The four runs were provided by two-run homeruns from Matthew Keener and Spencer Crane.
Jered Sanders secured the lead, as he hit a 3-RBI double in the top of the ninth, helping Ohio
Christian win the game 11-5.
With this victory, the Trailblazers upset the Eagles and made their way to the River States
Conference tournament for the first time in program history. As the eighth seed, they will face the
one seed in Point Park University on May 2.
