
Pikeville (KY) – Appalachian – University of Pikeville has been named NAIA Ball Team of the Week after a competitive stretch that included games against Lindsey Wilson(KY) and conference opponent Tennessee Wesleyan University. Pikeville showed dominance throughout the week, picking up key wins in close games.
In game one against Lindsey Wilson, Pikeville secured a 4-3 win behind timely hitting and late pitching. Noah Brooks provided a solo home run, while Cole Carmichael closed the game with one inning of work, allowing one hit, one run, zero earned runs, and striking out two.
Game two resulted in a 10-7 loss, as Pikeville’s offense produced but could not keep pace late. Lindsey Wilson capitalized on scoring opportunities to split the two-game set.
In game three, the series opener against No. 4 Tennessee Wesleyan, Pikeville earned a 9-6 win in a back-and-forth contest. The game was tied in the ninth before Pikeville strung together three straight singles to take the lead. Carmichael picked up his third save of the season, tossing one inning with two hits allowed and one strikeout while keeping Tennessee Wesleyan off the board.
Game four saw Pikeville take a 5-3 win in extra innings. After scoring three runs in the top of the ninth to tie the game, Pikeville added two more in the tenth to secure the win, with pitching holding firm to close it out.
Game five ended in an 11-3 loss, as Tennessee Wesleyan responded with a strong offensive performance to close the series.
